May the Peace of the Lord be with you!
Being a parent is an awesome responsibility. God entrusts not only the physical care of another human being to you, but He also their spiritual care. He wants you to educate your child in the ways of the world as well as give the child a moral foundation upon which he/she she can build his/her life. The parents are the first teachers of their children. This is an awesome responsibility that God asks parents to accept. It is paramount that parents always be the best example to their children.
In these United States, a public school system has been established to provide an education that hopefully provides the knowledge and skills the child will need to be successful in life. In our parish school, the children are given classes to help them in both their academic and their spiritual formation. Religion class is part of the every day curriculum. For children in public schools, the church provides religious education classes (CCD) once a week. Since religion is not part of the everyday curriculum, the parents must assume the responsibility of either teaching their own children about their faith, or enrolling them in the parish CCD classes. In either case, the parents play an important role in the moral development of their children and need to support what is taught in the classroom. Parents, therefore, need to know their Catholic faith so that they can pass it on to their children.
Religion classes (CCD) for Ss. Cyril and Methodius Parish are to begin. If you are a parent of a child who attends public school, you should have already enrolled your child in the parish CCD program. If you have not, please contact the Religious Education Office (the phone number is on the front of the bulletin) this week. CCD classes for the elementary grades are taught on Saturday mornings. Middle school classes are on Wednesday evening. High school students receive their religious education in the Life Teen Program which meets every Sunday after the 6:00 p.m. Life Teen Mass. Every child in this parish should be enrolled in a religious education class either in our parish school or in our parish CCD program or in the Life Teen Program.
Let me remind you that the Sacrament of Confirmation is conferred at the end of the 10th grade after a two year preparation process. A high school student who wants to be confirmed must regularly attending the Life Teen Mass and the Life Night immediately after that Mass in Msgr. Kasper Youth Center as well the special Confirmation classes that are held bi-monthly. To register for Confirmation, please contact our parish Youth Minister, Gilbert Juarez, in the parish office.
Let me personally thank all those who have volunteered their time to teach in our parish CCD program. It is a great sacrifice to give of your time to help our children learn about God and His church. Your dedication and willingness to serve is an example that we all can learn from.
It is my fervent hope that every child registered in this parish will be receiving an education in their Catholic faith. After all, it is our faith that guides us through life.
I love you,
